It's that Time of Year... Row by Row™ 2015 deadlines

August is wrapping up ~ the 2015 summer Row by Row™ will meet its first deadline on September 8th, when shops must cease providing patterns to visiting quilters. September 9 through October 31 is called the "Hibernation Period: No patterns or kits may be sold or handed out in any way during this time" per the RxR rules. Quilters have until October 31st to complete their 2015 RxR quilt and return it to any participating RxR shop that has not had a winner yet. Twenty-five fat quarters will be awarded by each shop to each winner. On November 1st, "the game ends."

Quilters' Quarters still has an abundance of kits, RxR pins, tote mini-kits, Robin the Bobbin patterns and 2014 and 2015 license plates available through September 8th. We also have the 2015 water-themed Massachusetts Post Card kits and are the only shop that still has them.

On November 1, patterns and kits will again be available, this time at our shop and also online at our web store. Items bought through PayPal that are shipped out of state will have the Massachusetts Sales Tax refunded immediately upon shipment, as will any over-estimated shipping charges that exceed the actual cost. Items ordered online will be shipped on the following business day.

We have a winner! Regina Souza brought her finished quilt in to our shop in the last week of August and left it with us for display for a while. I'm happy to show it off to quilters who are wrapping up their summer shop hop purchases. We have not seen as many quilters for Row by Row this year as we had last ... but look forward to continuing our relationship with all of the new customers we have met because of this international shop hop. Without the publicity of Row by Row™ we may never have been found by many of you.

Our numbers are less important to us than is meeting the community of quilters that has found its way to our door, and we plan to continue with the RxR events as they occur. In fact, "Helen and Henry," our new mystery series characters, will be experiencing their first quilt shop hop event in the second edition of their story. Publication date is estimated at November 15, 2015. The autographed books will be available in both the quilt shop and online at our webstore's book page. Books can also be purchased at Amazon.com and at Smashwords.com.

Aside from the excitement of the 2015 Row by Row™, Quilters' Quarters has had several new additions to our stock - we now carry Cuddle Fabrics, host a new local artist with creations of yarn, and are beginning to add holiday bolts as well. We have a supply of rotary blades, cutters and Olfa rotary mats, and an assortment of both Schmetz and Superior needles for sewing machines, as well as a good stock of hand sewing needles. We have a selection of Superior brand threads in solid and variegated colors, some Mettler, Coats and Clark and more.

What's New at Quilters' Quarters?

The shop's roof was finished at the end of July, walls were painted upstairs in August, and some of Rick's woodworking tools were then moved into their new, clear space.

That left room in the downstairs workshop for the Wooden Toys and Gifts shop to move into newer quarters. And that move created more open space in the front of the barn for Quilters' Quarters to expand ... and so it is!

We plan to have all of the moving around finished in time for our 20th and 1st Shop Anniversaries on Small Business Saturday, November 29th. All of Rick's toys and Terry's quilts will be back from their Art Exhibition display at the Pine Grove School in Rowley. And we have some new offerings from our consignment artists as well:

Ann Lainhart's Fussy Cut Fabric note cards

Ann Lainhart has restocked our special fat quarters and "bundles of eighths" color family selections from her own collection of beautiful quilt-quality fabrics. Ann has also added to her collection of quilted note cards, including some Christmas designs for kids. Remember, these cards include actual hand done "fussy-cut" kaleidoscopic designs worked by Ann herself. Catalogs of Ann's work, including her jackets, vests, tile trivets and more are in the shop; remember to ask for yours if you don't see them while meandering through the cabinets full of fabric, the trunk of orphan offerings (remember: you set the price) and the new Wooden Toy and Gift showroom in the back of the barn.

And our local painter, Lynne Schulte LaValley, is also offering a selection of cards representing some of her favorite holiday images for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, New Years and, if you're really planning ahead, Valentine's Day! Each of her cards contains a high quality print of one of her paintings.

Sandra Golbert's Fibre Art Note Cards

Sandra Golbert's fibre art cards contain many clever sayings to enhance the images she chooses to incorporate in her mult-media collection of note cards. Birthdays, Weddings, Showers, and Holidays are made more memorable when a special card hits exactly the right spot with that special person. All of our artists keep their prices reasonable: five or six dollars per card, and a discount if more than four are bought from one artist!

And our newest artist to join our group is Elizabeth Golz Rush, who, in addition to sharing her fabric line with us, also has been commissioned to provide drawings for gold foil embossed note cards from the National Wildlife Federation, and has generously given us packs of three of her designs, shown below; each of the birds featured in her designs is described in detail on the back of the card.

Her work has also been incorporated into the renowned Elsa Williams' cross stitch kits shown in the photo below, just behind the cards and in front of the fabric line. As the shop's spacial changes occur, more room will exist for workshops, lessons and eventually classes. One such workshop is being planned for mid to late January: it is my goal to have the two Red-Eye Singer Treadle Sewing Machines in good working condition, and then offer a workshop on how to clean and maintain those old treasures that might be hiding in your family's favorite hidey-hole!

We continue to Grow!

I've added a new page to this blog. The new page, titled Massachusetts Women Artists' Consignments, features information about the four women who have placed some of their work in our Quilters' Quarters. I'll give you a photo introduction to their art here, and then suggest that you go to the new page to read about their talents and find websites where you can see more of their work.

I've had more than one customer visit our shop and exclaim "It is so interesting in here!" ... "Everywhere you look there is something different, something unique." ... "I have to come back when I have more time to spend just soaking in the atmosphere."

I love those comments, and know that I owe some of the credit to the wonderful women who have shared their art with us. Come visit us to see what they have to offer. You'll always find something new at Quilters' Quarters ... something new and different, or something old and nostalgic. And if you don't find what you're looking for, just let us know and we will make it a point to find that for you on our next shopping trip!
