Terry's 2024 Quilt Journal

7/3/2024

Here's the book and the quilt it inspired that I'm working on this week:

6/24/2024
And another wheelchair quilt, this one for a large man. This one uses the single Irish Chain pattern and is backed with the floral jungle-cats print from the front

5/30/2024
I made a hot plate and two "mug rugs" using insulbrite  temperature-protective batting for a friend of mine ... they are a hit and she's asked for more 😊

4/21/2024

Finished and delivered 2 quilts for FD and PD today.

4/20/2024

Finished another wheelchair quilt this one is for a woman in a nursing home.  Pretty pink batik on the back.

4/16/2024

Working on a reversible wheelchair quilt for a nursing home / rehab male. Print side shows  a variety of workmen, and reverse has complementary colored blocks.   The block side will be trimmed diagonally at the bottom to accommodate the wheels. The print side will be also be trimmed  to match the block side. It will then  be quilted and bound, to be gifted next week.

This nursing home quilt has some delightful. messages on the front and is backed with a burgundy plaid flannel.

3/8/2024

I made an extra fire quilt for the 2024 fundraiser raffle at Erie 4 Fire Company.

3/7/2024

Another quilt for the senior center's nursing home project. This one looks like a crossword or a scrabble tiles with messages all about dogs. I backed it with a black and gray small check flannel. Quilted on the bias with a serpentine stitch. 5 inches apart.

2/18/2024

I spent most of today finishing the wheelchair quilt for a friend of ours. I put the squares together. I added the batting and the backing of eagle feathers print. Then I quilted it in my typical serpentine on the bias stitch. After I quilted and bound it, I trimmed the lower corners to accommodate the chair's wheels. I added the flannel pocket to the back. It made for a long day, but it was well worth it, as the quilt is ready to be delivered.

2/17/2024

Starting a quilt to accommodate a wheelchair's design, for a friend who has loved and provided music all his life.  Wishing him a full recovery and comfortable rehab. Stay tuned to see how I amend this pattern to allow clearance for the wheels...

2/13/2024

This quilt has a solid flannel back. with a 10" squares pieced front and warm and natural batting between. Overall size is 40" x 60". It's on its way to northern Maine.

2/2/24

Another nursing home quilt in progress: standard pattern, different charm packs, quieter hues, same yellow flannel as last week's.

1/30/24

Finished the borders and backed it with the same flannel, and no batting to keep it light. Bound it with a light lilac gingham print

1/21/24

I finished the front of the scrap quilt and will back it with flannel, again skipping the batting to lighten the weight and warmth for a nursing home / rehab patient.

1/19/24

Making some quilts requested for a nursing home. Using up 5" charm squares and trying different sizes. Here's one that will measure 36 x 48" when I make 6 more 12-1/2"  blocks. See this  link for the pattern.

And below is another size, meant for a rocker or wheel chair. You will find its measurements and style at this link I used the charms for the center panel, bordered by the twisted ribbon made with remnants from my shop, with a flannel bird print for the backing and front's frame. I bound it with a lilac gingham print. I rarely use true gingham in a quilt that will see a lot of laundering, as it is too thin a fabric.

I worked on a 1970ish Singer model 257 to replace my friend's Singer machine ... hers was a newer model, but when the electronic board failed, she learned it would cost as much to repair it as to buy a new machine. Instead of doing that, I told her I would give her one of mine.

Today I added the LED strip lights, and used up some of my left-over charm squares testing the machine.  I followed a video pattern from Facebook, and made a 24" square from 32 charms. Maybe it will become a cover for her new-old machine.

1/9/24

A sweet table runner  made for a friend ... called the "10 MINUTE TABLE RUNNER." Truth be told, I've never made it in less than 20 and often 30 minutes.. takes three quarters of a yard of fabric. 1/2 yard for the back and borders and 1/4 yard for the center. Can be quilted with or without batting. This one is done without batting.
