One More Day!

Wednesday is opening day for Quilters' Quarters ... only one more day until we're able to show you some of the new fabrics that are arriving month by month throughout Spring.

Our new hours will allow us to close before dark (11 am to 5 pm) and rest up for the next day of happy exchanges with quilters and sewists. I'm really looking forward to seeing you!

We're doing something new this year - inspired by the generosity of another new business in town, we are going to 'tithe' 10% once a month to a non-profit organization in Georgetown. Flatbreads does it every Tuesday Evening, helping out non-profits here and in surrounding towns. Recognizing that we are not as large or profitable as a restaurant, we set a first-step goal of supporting non-profits once a month.

To that end, on the first Wednesday of every month, Quilters' Quarters will donate 10% of the day's sales to an organization in town. This first month the Friends of the Georgetown Peabody Library is our chosen beneficiary. The Friends are the sole fundraising entity of the library, and work very hard with the community to raise money for children's summer programs, for museum passes, for teen programs and for adult events. Their big event is coming up this month - for the first time, they will hold a week-long book sale in the Meeting Room of the library. Watch your Georgetown Electric Bill Envelopes for the flyer advertising the special promotions during this book sale week at the library.

So mark your calendar - vote on Tuesday for your party's presidential candidate  nominee, and visit Quilters' Quarters on Wednesday, knowing that your purchases will also benefit the fundraising for the library!

Happy Leap Year Day!

Two More Weeks 'til Re-opening!

Don't forget to ask us about our Humble Beginnings Adventure 2016
Adventure Passes are now on sale at the shop: $6.00 will get you a free tote bag, a brochure, the all important pass and more!

Brrrr... it has been so cold this week! Below zero temperatures for two days and nights.  The barn has no water supply so no broken pipes out there, but one drain pipe split in the house. We reached about 10 below zero one night, and if we had been outside, it would have felt like 25 below with the wind chill. My hearts go out to public service workers who don't have a choice to stay tucked in on cold nights. Bless them all!

Today, though, just two days after the deep freeze, we had snow and then rain as the temps rose from single digits to the 50's! That is an unbelievable span of temperature change for one twenty-four hour day! I would go out to enjoy the warmer breeze, but it is pouring right now, so I'll just use my imagination.

Sweet kits for thread catchers; fabric, buttons,
and link to free patterns!

I'm imagining that Tuesday, March 1st will be one of those warm, early Spring days, when the scent of fresh earth after a rain and the view of tree buds appearing, along the the sounds of the birds returning and squabbling over choice nest sites all combine to call Spring to come forward and greet us. We'll be able to open the doors and windows of the shop to let the clean air in while we finish tidying up for our grand re-opening on Wednesday the 2nd.  We have some new fabrics to share (and still more coming throughout the Spring) and some new patterns, new kits and new ideas to share.
Here are some of the calicos and spring colors that have arrived so far...
deep green with pink/blue calico print

classic red and blue calico

widely spaced lilac orchid blossoms

pretty pink on white

mint green on white

butter yellow on white;
photo is blurred, fabric print is crisp and even!

mossy green leaves on cream with purple blossoms

sweeet pink gingham; also blue, yellow and green

New Spring 2016 shop hours: Wednesday through Saturday, 11 to 5pm

Regular Summer 2016 shop hours: Wednesday through Saturday, 11 - 7pm

Re-opening in Four More Weeks! New Fabrics and More ~

It's February! We will be re-opening our shops in four weeks, on March 2nd. I've had new rack cards printed up to help customers remember our new Spring Hours.

And on the back of the new card, I've added information about our new offering of servicing antique treadles and hand cranks. We can also help you learn to maintain your Singer Featherweight!

We're busy re-arranging things in Quilters' Quarters and look forward to  greeting you in just a few more weeks ...
rumor has it that the groundhog did in fact see his shadow, and so we're anticipating an early Spring ... crossing our fingers that it is true!

A little Facebook Humor

Just for fun: re-visit the article in our local newspaper that was written by Sally Applegate in 2014, shortly after our quilt shop's opening ... Sally wrote a very nice article, though the editor missed a very important detail when he wrote his headline for Sally's work ... we don't carry knitting supplies ... yet. But then, who knows what the future may bring? We've only just begun!
