Making quilts for Hurricane victms in North Carolina and Tennessee ... winter is coming!
Red and white flowers on a lilac front, backed with red. |
Blue and white elephants on light aqua, backed with dark turquoise. |
These two quilts are made of kits, with 2 pieces of fleece measuring 48" x 60". They are quilted with a decorative stitch on the bias. Instead of closing the edges with a binding strip, I used the overlock stitch on my Bernina. Fleece is very easy to take shortcuts like that.
FYI, I bought six of these precut quilt kits at Joann's fabric. They were priced at $11 each, but were on sale for $5. My fellow quilters at the senior center are working on some of these as well. The challenge though is getting the quilts down to the southern states. Post office estimates $12 per quilt to mail them individually. I'll check at UPS tomorrow to see if they have a better price.
